Nutrition - Physical Activity

When making healthy choices in your diet, you should also make healthy choices in your activity. Some activities don't impact your health in positive ways. Watching TV, reading, or strolling through the mall at a leisurely pace don't increase your heart rate, and don't do much for your health.

To see positive health benefits, you should engage in moderate or vigorous physical activity at least 30 minutes every day.

Moderate physical activities include:

  • walking briskly
  • hiking
  • dancing
  • regular bicycling
  • weight training

Vigorous physical activities include:

  • running
  • swimming laps
  • aerobics
  • power walking
  • chopping wood and pushing a regular lawn mower
  • a hot game of basketball

Remember, the more physical activity you do every day, the more calories you burn! Learning to balance the calories you eat against the calories you burn through physical activity is the key to maintaining a healthy weight and physical body.
